"If you live to be one hundred, I'd want to live to be one hundred minus one day, so I'd never have to live a day without you." Winnie the Pooh
A month ago today my oldest dearest friends journeyed the 2000 miles route to Lavender Hill, a now given name to our Linwood house. Although we make it a point to visit one another as often as life permits, it's been seventeen years since our last road trip. Imagine that. All grown-up after all these years, it's pretty amazing how our friendship remains --- kindred spirited as ever. Still sharing laugher, love, and happiness.
With the boys on the side, we had one fun slumber party!

On the road again -
Just can't wait to get on the road again.
The life I love is making music with my friends
And I can't wait to get on the road again.
On the road again
Goin' places that I've never been
Seein' things that I may never see again
And I can't wait to get on the road again
On the road again-
Like a band of gypsies we go down the highway
We're the best of friends
Insisting that the world keep turning our way
And our way is on the road again. (Willie Nelson)
Our first road trip way back when consisted of a car with snacks at the most. No check list, no phones, we can't even remember if we had a map to guide us. This road trip however, well we were equipped with two iPhones and a laptop. Can we be anymore connected?
Even on a cold cloudy day, the autumn colors were glorious!
Rows after rows of red, orange and yellow trees paraded our way...
all the way up north.

Returning to Hotel Iroquois. This hotel never disappoints.

The sweetest lakeside room. One can't help but be mesmerized.

A place where everybody knows your home's name.
Hmm... Lavender Hill is about to be born.

Can this be anymore picture perfect?

A room with a view indeed.
The start of what would become the infamous three-mile walk to nowhere.

Officially lost, we attempted to call for help.
The hotel concierge asked, "What is the name of the closest house to your location?"
The carriage would take an hour and a half to get to our location.
Note to self: Learn how to ride a horse or drive a carriage, for next time.
We opted to brave the long walk to home base and took refuge at the library when rain began to fall.

I wish all libraries had this feature.

Our original destination...

... was apparently, just a couple blocks away from our hotel.
(Are you laughing? It was funny!)

Somewhere In Time
Murder Mystery Dinner was about to begin.

An empty grand hallway.
Not for long.

Everyone was so wonderful here,
especially the lovely "
kababayan" working during teatime.

Returning to the lakeside for a cozy night in...

... of storytelling.
Breaking dawn.

Loving this picture of Jean.
The island is known for its famous fudge.

Loving this picture of Sonia.

Somewhere in the lobby are our coffees and tea
which we accidently left when we rushed out
to catch our ferry back to the main land.

Another cozy night at Lavender Hill.
Just like old times-- Thursday nights at Jean's house watching Friends.
(except this time we had a scary movie night too)
Waking up to what's been called the B & B service.
Parting gifts: pure Michigan maple syrup
Lovely happy guests.

I will miss them so.

Jean & Sone: I hope this post was worth your wait. I know there's many, many more memorable moments I didn't capture here which we'll make sure to remember. Let's not wait seventeen years for another road trip. (Medocino- check!, Mackinac Island- check!, Where to next?) Do come again...
P.S. Special thanks to Rebeckah and Kiran for inspiring this magical vacation. (*wink*)
Photos on this post taken by yours truly, Sonia, & Jean too!
